The approach

Brickwork restored to last

Repointing looks simple from the street, but most of the work is in the preparation. Old, failed mortar is raked out to the right depth without damaging the edges of the bricks. Cracked or spalled bricks are cut out and replaced with matching bricks, and arches are rebuilt where needed.

The new mortar is mixed to suit the building and pointed in a joint profile that matches the period. Done properly, it protects the brickwork from water, stops further decay and gives the façade back its crisp, original lines.

Raked out by hand

Failed mortar removed carefully so the brick edges stay sharp.

Repairs, not just pointing

Damaged bricks replaced and arches rebuilt where the brickwork needs it.

The right mortar and joint

Mixed and finished to suit the age and style of the building.

How we manage a repointing and façade restoration

Clear from the first visit to the final check

With period brickwork, what matters most is the preparation and the mortar you cannot see from the street. This is how we run it.

  1. Site visit

We see the property, check access, structure and services, and talk through what you want the space to do.

  2. Written proposal

A clear, itemised quotation. What is included, what is not, and who is responsible for what, agreed before we start.

  3. Planning & approvals

Drawings, approvals, materials and lead times confirmed, so the build runs in the right order.

  4. The build

Carried out in sequence by our own team, with each stage checked before the next one starts.

  5. Updates you can follow

One point of contact throughout. You know what is happening this week and when we need a decision from you.

  6. Snagging & handover

We walk the finished project with you and resolve any points before we sign it off.

FAQs

Repointing and façade restoration: your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 020 3576 7307 or message us on WhatsApp.

How much does repointing cost in London?

It depends on the area of brickwork, its condition, the access and scaffolding needed, and whether brick or arch repairs are required.

After a survey we give you an itemised written quotation, so you can see what the work involves before anything is agreed.

How do I know if my house needs repointing?

Common signs are mortar that is crumbling or recessed deep into the joints, gaps you can push a key into, damp patches on inside walls, and plants growing from the brickwork. We can survey the façade and tell you what needs doing now and what can wait.

Which mortar do you use on period houses?

It depends on the building. Older brickwork usually needs a softer, more breathable mortar so moisture can escape through the joints rather than the bricks. We match the mix and the joint finish to the house.

Can you match old bricks?

Usually, yes. We source reclaimed or matching bricks so repairs blend in with the original façade.

Do you manage the whole project, or do I need separate trades?

We manage the whole job: scaffolding, raking out, brick repairs, repointing and cleaning down. You deal with one team and one point of contact.

How long will the project take?

It depends on the size of the façade, the condition of the brickwork and the weather, since mortar needs the right conditions to cure. We confirm a realistic programme after the survey.

Will my home be protected while you work?

Floors and routes through the property are protected, dust is controlled, and the site is left tidy at the end of each day. Clients regularly mention in reviews how clean the team kept their home.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in West Hampstead and carry out repointing and façade restoration across London. Send us your postcode to confirm.
